Why I enjoyed the festival: With a Mum who was a dance teacher running a large school it was difficult not to be involved in the annual festival, however like so many others the festival was the highlight of the year. I loved everything from the rehearsals to the dressing up to performing, solo or in multiple duets with my partner Louisa, it was great fun and got me entirely hooked on the magic of showbusiness. I can still be heard to proudly proclaim that we were National Duet Champions at the All England Festival at Sadler’s Wells! Looking back now I realise how much I did learn from being in a competitive environment, albeit I had no idea how fundamental those years of hairspray and medals would become. It didn’t just teach me about performance and creativity it taught be about hard work, commitment, resilience and teamwork. I remain friends with many of the girls I danced with and competed against even all these years later. The world of show, on and off stage, is a business and it’s mighty hard but I have been lucky enough to make it my life and after surviving this past year I think the words of my old favourite song and dance number ring true : “Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start all over again”
